For singer/songwriter Barbara Dixon, composing urban contemporary gospel music comes naturally. However, her true passion is singing praise and worship melodies, whether at her home church or at Christian services, retreats and conferences. "Praise and Worship is really where my heart is. This is not just something I do to please a crowd, it's how I live. Without praise and worship in my life, I don't know how I would have made it through some of the things that I' ve experienced!"

At the age of eighteen, Barbara became a Christian. Within months of her conversion, tragedy struck. Barbara's family was evicted from their home, her stepfather disappeared and her mother suffered a major heart attack, lapsing into a coma. With no place to go, Barbara and her sister (who was one at the time) were placed in a shelter for battered woman by Children's Aid, while her mother recovered.

As tragic as this was for Barbara, it was during this time that she came to know personally the awesome strength, love and power of God. "I remember saying, "God, why me? I thought everything would be perfect once I gave my life to you!" There I was scared, lonely and confused, with a dying mother and baby sister to take care of. I remember crying for hours before God until I fell asleep. But eventually, my laments and desperate cries became songs and psalms for the Lord; my only source of comfort." Indeed, it was during this time that Barbara began her journey into singing and writing songs for God.

Through the grace of God, Barbara's mother eventually recovered, and her family moved out of the shelter into a beautiful home. Barbara applied to university while in the shelter, and later graduated with two degrees. "Now as I look back, I know that that situation happened for a reason. To teach me that I can trust God to bring me through absolutely anything. What I thought was a curse turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The blessing was discovering Jesus! I've written songs all throughout my Christian journey to bring comfort to myself and others, and it all started when I was living in a shelter!"

"Let's Talk", "Keeper of My Heart", "God's Lady" and "Precious Moments", are Barbara's own thought's, observations and personal testimony put into words. These 4 songs touch on issues ranging from boldness for Christ to sexual purity. "My writing style/persuasion has always been simple and straight from the heart. I want my music to encourage people to glorify God, as well as, discuss things that they may not hear in a sermon. The music may be written by me, but it's everybody's story. I'm not hiding anything about the realities of the Christian walk. The realities that nobody likes to talk about. Like Christians who struggle with depression, low self esteem, sexual purity and abuse, to name a few. I have to be real!"

Barbara's desire is to share the goodness of God through song and to let people know that God loves them more than they could ever know. "I'm a living example that no matter who you are or where you have been, God can take your nothing and make into something!"

LISTEN, AND LET THE MUSIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF!!!
